Description

The NHASP 2015 Winter Meeting will have two primary sessions as well as a brief presentation during lunch. If you have questions about this event, please contact NHASP president Nate Jones

The morning will begin with a presentation on the Boston Public Schools Comprehensive Behavioral Health Model.  At 11am, we will begin discussing strategic planning for NHASP. During lunch, NHASP leaders will present the proposed association budget for 2015-2016 as well as discuss current NHASP initiatives and accomplishments. After lunch, we will continue with NHASP strategic planning.

Creating Safe and Supportive Schools: The Boston Public Schools Comprehensive Behavioral Health Model with Andria Amador

Creating Safe and Supportive Schools leads to improved academic outcomes and reductions in negative behaviors. School psychologists can serve as change agents who have the skills and training to develop a behavioral health framework, implement interventions, track data and provide professional development.

This presentation will outline how BPS created a Comprehensive Behavioral Health Model, the impact of the Model, and how school psychologists can support the behavioral and mental health needs of all students.

NHASP Strategic Planning with Peg Dawson

Strategic Planning has been a core component of NHASP for decades. Our current plan has guided the organization for 5 years and is ready to be revised.

Having a strategic plan that serves the needs of our members is what makes NHASP strong. Participants in this working session will evaluate our current plan, identify areas for improvement and replacement, and develop an action plan to help NHASP achieve our goals.

Learning Objectives

Over the course of the morning workshop, participants will:
  1. Identify the expanded roles of school psychologists in a behavioral health framework
  2. Take first steps in developing a comprehensive behavioral health framework
  3. Discuss the importance of community partnerships

Over the course of the strategic planning sessions, participants will:
  1. Discuss the work of NHASP over the past 5 years and the impact of our current strategic plan.
  2. Identify emerging trends in education and mental health where NHASP should expand our role as an organization.
  3. Develop important activities that support the mission of NHASP.
