Ethical AI Use in School Psychology: Risks, Responsibilities, and Practical Guardrails (16 Sep 2026)

Ethical AI Use in School Psychology: Risks, Responsibilities, and Practical Guardrails

Three-Hour Professional Development Workshop
September 16, 2026 | Virtual

Artificial intelligence is increasingly finding its way into educational and professional practice—but its use raises important questions for school psychologists.

What are the risks to confidentiality and privacy? How do we account for bias or inaccurate AI-generated content? Where should we draw the boundaries around AI-assisted professional work?

Join Dr. Adam Lockwood for a three-hour workshop examining the ethical, legal, and professional considerations involved in the use of artificial intelligence in school psychology.

Topics will include:

Confidentiality and privacy

Accuracy and unsupported AI-generated content

Bias and equity

Disclosure and consent

Documentation

Professional accountability

Appropriate boundaries for AI-assisted work

Through practical safeguards and case-based application, participants will consider how to make informed decisions about when, where, and how AI tools can be used responsibly in school psychology practice.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

Identify major ethical, legal, and professional considerations related to AI use in school psychology.

Describe common risks involving bias, privacy, overreliance, accuracy, and unsupported AI-generated content.

Apply practical safeguards and ethical decision-making principles to common uses of AI in school psychology practice.

Who Should Attend?

School psychologists, graduate students, supervisors, and other professionals interested in the responsible use of emerging AI technologies in educational settings.

Presented by the New Hampshire Association of School Psychologists (NHASP)

Register today and join us for a timely conversation about navigating AI while maintaining ethical and professional responsibility.

3 CEUs | NHASP Members $60 | Nonmembers $90 | Graduate Students $30/$45.

NHASP School Psychology Supervision Institute

Six Sessions. One Cohort. Better Supervision.

12-Hour Certificate Program | 12 CEUs
October 2026 – March 2027 | Virtual
Limited to 20 Participants

The New Hampshire Association of School Psychologists (NHASP) invites school psychologists at all career stages to participate in theSchool Psychology Supervision Institute, a six-session professional learning experience led by Jason P. Kaplan, Ph.D., NCSP, and Joan Struzziero, Ph.D.

Whether you are considering supervision for the first time, currently supervising practicum students or interns, mentoring early-career colleagues, or have years of supervisory experience, the Institute is designed to strengthen your practice while creating a community of school psychologists committed to developing the next generation of professionals.

More Than a Workshop

Effective supervision develops over time—and so does this Institute.

Across six interactive sessions, participants will work through real-world supervision challenges usingcase discussion, problem-solving, reflection, and peer consultation. The extended format allows participants to learn new approaches, apply them in practice, return to the group, and continue developing their supervisory skills throughout the school year.

To preserve this highly interactive, case-based experience, enrollment is limited to 20 participants.

Throughout the Institute, participants will explore:

Effective and developmentally responsive supervision practices

Beyond Compliance: Neurodiversity-Affirming Practices That Help People Thrive (16 Oct 2026)

Beyond Compliance: Neurodiversity-Affirming Practices That Help People Thrive

Presenter: Megg Thompson

Program Description
What changes when we stop asking neurodivergent people to adapt to environments that were not designed for them—and start listening to what they tell us they actually need?

Drawing on 15 years of conversations with neurodivergent individuals about the conditions that help them thrive, Megg Thompson will challenge traditional compliance-based approaches and introduce practical, neurodiversity-affirming alternatives grounded in lived experience. Participants will explore common patterns related to pace, priorities, overwhelm, communication, and environmental demands while examining how rejection, judgment, and attempts to control behavior can interfere with authentic support.

This interactive workshop moves beyond simply understanding neurodiversity to reconsidering how we respond to neurodivergent needs in practice. Participants will leave with concrete, strengths-based strategies for creating environments that support autonomy, regulation, connection, and success—strategies informed by the voices and experiences of neurodivergent people themselves.

Learning Objectives

Beyond Compliance: Neurodiversity-Affirming Approaches to ADHD (18 Nov 2026)

November 18, 2026 | 12:00–1:00 PM

Beyond Compliance: Neurodiversity-Affirming Approaches to ADHD
Presenter: Megg Thompson
1 CEU

Program Description
Traditional approaches to ADHD often focus on increasing compliance, productivity, and task completion. A neurodiversity-affirming approach asks a different question: What is making participation difficult, and what does this individual need to be successful?

Building on the principles introduced in Beyond Compliance, Megg Thompson will explore ADHD through the lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals. Participants will examine how differences in executive functioning, regulation, motivation, pace, transitions, overwhelm, and environmental demands can shape behavior that is often interpreted as avoidance, noncompliance, or lack of effort. The session will offer practical strategies for reducing unnecessary demands, increasing autonomy, and creating environments in which individuals with ADHD can more effectively access their strengths and participate successfully.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:

Identify ways ADHD-related differences may be misinterpreted as noncompliance or lack of motivation.

Describe how executive functioning, regulation, overwhelm, and environmental demands influence participation.

Apply neurodiversity-affirming strategies that support autonomy, regulation, and meaningful engagement.

Beyond Compliance: Neurodiversity-Affirming Approaches to Anxiety (16 Dec 2026)

December 16, 2026 | 12:00–1:00 PM

Beyond Compliance: Neurodiversity-Affirming Approaches to Anxiety
Presenter: Megg Thompson
1 CEU
Program Description
When anxiety presents as avoidance, refusal, shutdown, reassurance seeking, or difficulty tolerating change, traditional interventions can unintentionally increase the very distress they are intended to reduce. Neurodiversity-affirming practice invites us to look beyond observable behavior and consider what an individual’s nervous system, environment, and lived experience may be communicating.

In this focused webinar, Megg Thompson will explore anxiety through a neurodiversity-affirming lens, with particular attention to overwhelm, uncertainty, expectations, sensory and environmental demands, and the effects of pressure and judgment. Participants will consider how commonly used approaches may inadvertently prioritize compliance over regulation and will leave with practical strategies for supporting safety, autonomy, self-understanding, and meaningful participation.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:

Recognize ways anxiety may present through avoidance, shutdown, refusal, or other behaviors that can be misunderstood.

Explain how overwhelm, uncertainty, environmental demands, and pressure can contribute to anxiety among neurodivergent individuals.

Apply neurodiversity-affirming strategies that promote regulation, autonomy, and participation without relying primarily on compliance.

NHASP School Psychology Supervision Institute (06 Jan 2027)

Providing meaningful feedback and fostering reflective practice

Kaplan, Ph.D., NCSP, and Joan Struzziero, Ph.D.
