Workshop Description

Perhaps now more than ever, school psychologists are being called upon to address the social and emotional needs of students via individual and/or group counseling. Most school psychologists receive substantial training in conducting school-based counseling; however, many school psychologists find it difficult to effectively monitor student progress. Research-based outcome monitoring methods have been implemented in clinical mental health settings, but school-based practice has been slow to implement many of these practices.

Through lecture and small group discussion, this session will summarize research findings regarding the importance of utilizing research-based progress monitoring methods, describe several methodologies that can be easily implemented by school psychologists, and discuss various systemic advantages of relying on research-based methodology to monitor the process and outcomes for students receiving school-based counseling.

Target Audience

This workshop is available to current NHASP members at a special reduced rate as a membership benefit. It is appropriate for School Psychologists, Psychologists, School Counselors, School-Based Mental Health and Social Workers.

Learning Objectives

This session will help attendees…

  1. Understand the importance of utilizing research-based methods to monitor progress.
  2. Learn two specific research-based methods of monitoring progress.
  3. Learn how to integrate effective progress monitoring methods into their existing practice.
  4. Learn how systematic feedback data can be used to facilitate micro and macro-level change.
