Workshop Description
The purpose of the presentation is to help school psychologists and other school personnel navigate ethical dilemmas and promote the highest standards of ethical conduct in their work with students, families, and school personnel. The mini-skills session will also highlight the ethical decision-making process and the importance of ongoing professional development in maintaining ethical standards. Lastly, using case scenarios and group discussions, the presentation will emphasize the ethical codes and guidelines that school psychologists are expected to follow and provide practical examples of how these codes can be applied in real-world situations.
Presenter Biographies
Dr. Jason Kaplan is the Chair and Associate Professor of the School Psychology Department at William James College. He is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP), MA Licensed Psychologist and Health Service Provider (HSP), and MA Licensed School and Educational Psychologist. Before joining William James College in 2015, Dr. Kaplan was a school psychologist in the Newton Public Schools, Newton, MA, where he supervised school psychology graduate students for fourteen years. Prior to working in Newton and at William James College, Dr. Kaplan taught high school students with learning, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. His professional interests include legal and ethical issues, supervision and mentorship, systems change, and the assessment and treatment of children with learning and emotional disabilities.
For Dr. Joan Struzziero, supervision in school psychology has been a long-standing research interest, resulting in the NASP publication Effective Supervision in School Psychology (co-authored with Virginia Harvey, PhD in 2000), followed by a 2nd edition in 2008. Since that time, she has participated in myriad national workshops at NASP, APA, and MSPA. As a practitioner, she worked at Scituate High School and as an adjunct faculty member at UMASS. She has also been an adjunct professor at Northeastern University and William James College. She has served on ethics boards at the local and national level.

NHASP is a NASP-approved provider of CPD hours and Certificates of Attendance will be accepted toward NCSP. A total of 3.0 CE credits will be awarded for this event.
NH Licensed Psychologists should note that NASP is an approved CE provider and these credits count towards licensure renewal requirements.
Target Audience
This workshop is appropriate for School Psychologists, Psychologists, School Social Workers, School Counselors, Special Education Teachers and Administrators, Regular Education Teachers, and Speech Pathologists. The workshop is available to current NHASP members at a special reduced rate as a membership benefit. Additionally, members of other Northeast Regional state associations can attend at the NH member rate as part of our regional collaboration.
